Job summary

Viant Medical in Wheeling, IL is seeking a Swiss Machinist to set up and operate CNC Swiss-style lathes, manufacturing precision medical device components to engineering specs.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, tool selection, in-process inspection, and collaborating with Engineering/QC/Maintenance to ensure GMP/ISO13485 compliance and continuous improvement on the line.

We offer competitive pay and benefits; 2nd shift 2:00pm-10:00pm, with pay commensurate with experience and location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical degree, apprenticeship, or vocational training in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC Swiss lathes in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Medical device, aerospace, or highly regulated manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Swiss-style lathes to manufacture complex, high-precision medical device components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
• Select and install tooling, fixtures, and machine accessories required for production.
• Adjust machine offsets and make program edits to maintain dimensional accuracy and optimize performance.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and vision systems.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap.
• Monitor machine performance and production output to achieve quality, efficiency, and delivery objectives.
• Maintain compliance with GMP, ISO 13485 requirements, and company quality procedures.
• Complete production documentation accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to support new product introductions and process improvements.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and maintain equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Performs other duties as needed
