Job summary

Metalex Manufacturing, Inc. is expanding its high‑precision grinding capabilities and seeks an experienced CNC ID/OD Grinding Machinist to join our team.

You will set up and operate CNC grinders (vertical, horizontal, specialty) to produce mission‑critical components from Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel, with tight tolerances and superior surface finishes. You’ll read engineering drawings, generate CNC programs, perform in‑process inspections, and work closely with Engineering and Quality

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience operating CNC ID/OD grinding machines
• Experience with horizontal and/or vertical CNC grinders
• Proficiency in conversational CNC controls and grinding cycles
• Knowledge of GD&T interpretation and blueprints
• Ability to perform in-process and final inspections and lift 50+ lbs

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC ID/OD grinding machines (vertical, horizontal, specialty)
• Select and mount grinding wheels; dress wheels as required
• Generate CNC programs using conversational programming at the machine control
• Achieve tight tolerances and high surface finish (±0.0002”)
• Read and interpret drawings and GD&T requirements
• Perform in-process inspections with micrometers, gages, and comparators
• Adjust programs and machine settings from inspection feedback
• Follow routers and setup sheets; document work and deviations
• Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to resolve issues
• Participate in cross-training and maintain a clean, 6S workspace
• Engage in continuous improvement to boost quality and efficiency

POSITION OVERVIEW/SUMMARY:

Metalex is expanding its high‑precision grinding capabilities and seeking an experienced CNC ID/OD Grinding Machinist to join our team. This role involves setting up and operating a variety of CNC horizontal, vertical, and specialty grinding machines to produce mission‑critical components with tight tolerances and high surface finish requirements.

You’ll work on challenging parts made from high‑performance materials including Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel, using state‑of‑the‑art equipment and tools in a clean, well‑supported, team‑oriented environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Set up and operate CNC ID/OD grinding machines including:

• Vertical Grinders: Large and Small Kehren
• Specialty Grinders: Gleason Curvic Coupling Grinder
• Select and mount grinding wheels appropriate for material, finish, and form; dress wheels manually or automatically as required
• Generate CNC grinding programs using conversational programming directly at the machine control (Fanuc, Siemens, etc.)
• Perform precision grinding to tolerances as tight as ±.0002” with high surface finish quality
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and GD&T requirements
• Conduct in‑process inspections using micrometers, bore gages, air gages, and comparators to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface specifications
• Adjust programs and machine settings based on inspection feedback
• Follow routers and setup sheets; document work performed and deviations when needed
• Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve technical issues
• Participate in cross‑training, and contribute to a positive, team‑based work environment
• Maintain clean and organized workspace following 6S and safety protocols
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, cycle time, and workflow

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC ID/OD grinding machines
• Hands‑on experience with horizontal and/ or Vertical CNC and manual grinders
• Proficiency in conversational CNC controls and understanding of grinding cycles
• Deep understanding of grinding wheel selection, dressing techniques, and coolant use
• Strong knowledge of blueprints and GD&T interpretation
• Ability to perform accurate in‑process and final part inspections
• Strong mechanical aptitude and precision mindset
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand (no sitting) for extended periods
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (required for ITAR compliance)
