Job summary

Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol, Tennessee, is seeking a Preaching Pastor to join our church leadership team. The ideal candidate will have a strong calling to pastoral ministry and a commitment to biblical preaching and discipleship.

Preaching Pastor

Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol, Tennessee, is prayerfully seeking a Preaching Pastor to join our church leadership team.

Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church is committed to a shared leadership model, where the Preaching Pastor will serve alongside a plurality of pastors/elders who share in the spiritual leadership, care, and direction of the church. This is not a solo‑pastor model, but an elder‑led ministry structure built on mutual accountability, shared responsibility, and a unified commitment to shepherding God’s people.

The primary responsibility of the Preaching Pastor will be to faithfully preach and teach the Word of God, helping lead the church in sound doctrine, biblical discipleship, and gospel‑centered ministry. He will also provide pastoral care to church members, including counseling, visitation, prayer, and shepherding families through various seasons of life.

The ideal candidate will have a strong calling to pastoral ministry, a heart for the local church, and a commitment to biblical preaching, discipleship, and servant leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead in the regular preaching and teaching ministry of the church.
• Work alongside the pastor/elder team in shared leadership and decision‑making.
• Provide pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and spiritual guidance to members.
• Help equip the church for discipleship, evangelism, and ministry.
• Support the mission of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church: Making disciples who make disciples of Christ.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of pastoral ministry experience required.
• Seminary education preferred.
• Must meet the biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9.
• Must affirm Baptist doctrine and be in agreement with the mission, values, and ministry direction of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church.
• Must be a gifted preacher and teacher with a shepherd’s heart.
