Job summary

Summitks is seeking a Pre-Op RN to prep patients for surgery, ensuring they are physically and emotionally ready, and to provide essential preoperative care. You will conduct thorough preoperative assessments, educate families, prepare patients for surgery, and monitor vitals prior to procedures in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires graduation from an accredited nursing program, an active Kansas RN license, and certifications (BLS/ACLS/PALS).

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
  • Previous experience in preoperative care or surgical nursing preferred.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required.
  • Strong clinical, communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients preoperatively with histories, exams and labs.
  • Educate patients and families about the surgical process and expectations.
  • Prepare patients for surgery including IVs and preoperative medications.
  • Monitor vital signs and stability before surgery.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and care team.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures and regulations.

Job Summary:

The Pre-Op RN will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery, ensuring they are ready both physically and emotionally, and providing essential preoperative care.

Responsibilities:
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing patient histories, physical exams, and lab results.
  • Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with information about the surgical process, including preoperative instructions and what to expect postoperatively.
  • Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery, including starting IVs, administering preoperative medications, and ensuring consent forms are completed.
  • Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs and condition before surgery.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
  • Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as state and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas.
  • Experience: Previous experience in preoperative care, surgical nursing, or a similar setting preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required.
  • Skills: Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Physical Requirements:

This position is primarily an action position requiring walking, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds. At times must lift up to 75 pounds. Potential for long periods of standing. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and other facility operating systems. Must have auditory acuity to effectively interact with patients and public.

Work Schedule:

Regular schedule is based on patient volume and surgical schedule. Schedule is set by the Nursing Management prior to shift’s start.
