Job summary

Cornell University Hospital for Animals seeks a Pre-Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the Intermediate Nursing Care team in Ithaca, NY. You will gain hands-on experience under LVT/DVM supervision, caring for diverse patients and supporting diagnostics, treatments, admissions and discharges.

This onsite role requires a willingness to learn, strong communication, and the ability to handle animals safely.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with six months of basic animal handling experience.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited associates' degree in veterinary technology via distance learning.
• Must obtain Vet Tech degree within three years of enrollment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with accuracy.
• Strong communication and willingness to learn electronic medical record systems (ezyVet).
• Ability to lift and restrain animals over 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic and intermediate nursing care to hospitalized/outpatient patients with direction from LVT/DVM.
• Assist with clinical procedures, including anesthesia transport and sample processing.
• Support admissions/discharges, prepare treatment areas, and maintain clean, safe spaces.
• Maintain patient records and collaborate with care team using ezyVet and Instinct.
