Job summary

KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS in Kansas City, Missouri seeks an Instructional Support Assistant to work with Pre-Kindergarten instructors at Garfield Elementary. The role supports planning, coordinating, and delivering child development activities to promote early learning and kindergarten readiness.

Responsibilities include assisting with data entry, attendance, health and meals records, preparing materials, and reinforcing positive behavior.

Qualifications

• 60 college hours with 24 in early childhood, youth development, or related courses; transcript or Para Pro certification required.
• Missouri substitute teacher certification issued by DESE.
• Skills in working with young children and their families.
• Desire to work with Pre-Kindergarten children.
• Familiarity with urban school districts.
• Ability to pass Family Care Safety Registry background check.
• MODHSS Medical Examination Report for Caregivers and Staff (incl. TB test)

Responsibilities

• Assist instructor with data entry related to student learning and attendance, and preparing/maintaining parent information boards.
• Prepare, organize, clean and sanitize classroom materials per licensing and accreditation requirements.
• Assist in team teaching, planning, and scheduling daily routines.
• Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior during the Pre-K day.
• Work with peers, consultants, parents and volunteers.
• Attend professional development sessions as required.
• Plan learning activities to stimulate growth in language, social, emotional, STEAM and motor skills.
• Coach children in caring for equipment and self.
