Job summary

Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is hiring Educational Assistant I–III for Honolulu classrooms. The positions support early learning and work under the supervision of the classroom teacher to implement activities, monitor student progress, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for children.

Salary ranges reflect SR-10 to SR-14 levels with monthly pay, and opportunities for advancement as experience grows.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent required; Parapro/ParaPathways or similar assessments may be used.
• No Child Left Behind Act-compliant exam acceptable by the Hawaii DOE, or higher education credits as specified.
• An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Special substitutions may substitute for experience as outlined in the posting.

Responsibilities

• Greet and supervise children, support learning activities, and ensure safety and well-being.
• Assist in setting up learning centers and materials; follow teacher plans and adapt as needed.
• Observe and document children’s development and progress; maintain a positive learning environment.
• Support transitions, communicate with families and colleagues, and participate in classroom routines.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent (No Child Left Behind Act qualification)

143 hours or 3 credits in math and 3 credits in English (for education requirement)

Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution

CDA or related credential/substitution eligibility
