Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education seeks an Educational Assistant I–III to support classroom activities, supervision, and child development documentation. The role advances with experience and required credentials, including health and safety routines and learning-center management.

Successful candidates will meet one of several education pathways and demonstrate ability to engage children in developmentally appropriate activities, under teacher guidance, in a dynamic school setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with one of the listed educational options.
• Option includes passing a relevant exam or credential approved by the Hawaii DOE.
• 48 credits including math and English or an equivalent degree are accepted.
• Alternative: associate degree or higher substitutes for General/Specialized Experience.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate safe, engaging learning environments and greet children.
• Set up activities and supervise indoor/outdoor centers; support transitions.
• Observe and document child development and learning progress.
• Assist with health and safety routines and sanitize materials as needed.
• Prepare materials and maintain learning environments per teacher guidance.
• Supervise students before, during, and after classes.
