Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education seeks Educational Assistants I–III to support prekindergarten classrooms serving children aged 3–5. Positions require CDA Credential or active pursuit, and adherence to EOEL program guidelines.

Salary ranges are listed monthly, with progression through Educational Assistant levels based on experience. Applicants must meet education and experience requirements and may substitute credentials for time in service as specified.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and one of the following as described by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
• At least 48 baccalaureate-level credits including 3 in mathematics and 3 in English.
• An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Department.
• A bachelor degree or higher may substitute for all General and Specialized Experience.

Responsibilities

• Cultivates healthy, challenging learning environments and experiences; greets children and ensures safe departure; models appropriate behavior; assists in transitions and routines.
• Implements and assesses learning experiences for children based on plans; sets up activities and groups; supervises learning activities.
• Observes children and documents development; collects data as directed by the teacher.
• Ensures health and safety for children; assists with toileting, handwashing, eating, resting, and play; reports unsafe conditions.
• Prepares and maintains materials and environments for learning experiences; observes use of materials and provides modifications as needed.
• Supervises before, during, and after class activities.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

48 college credits (3 in math and 3 in English)

Associate degree or higher

Bachelor degree or higher (substitution for experience)
