Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a Pre-K Assistant, Exceptional Children, to support the classroom teacher and assist with student instruction under general supervision.

The role requires a CDA credential, or working toward a degree with six documented semester hours per year, and may involve supervising students and preparing instructional materials. The position is on CMS premises with a 9-month schedule and potential transportation duties.

Qualifications

• CDA credential required.
• Minimum six documented semester hours per year until completion; degree in childcare administration, early childhood education, or related field preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in birth-kindergarten or related early childhood program also acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and on school grounds.
• Discuss duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment.
• Observe and record student progress for progress assessment.
• Present subject matter under guidance of teachers using appropriate methods.
• Assist with checking materials, correcting papers, and supervising tests.
• Maintain clean learning centers and organize classroom spaces.
• Assist with attendance procedures and transportation duties as needed.
• Prepare lesson materials and classroom displays for assigned classrooms.
• Participate in daily bus, car and van transportation duties for students.
