Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking a Pre-K Assistant to support the assigned classroom teacher and assist with instruction in an early childhood setting. The role involves supervising students, preparing materials, and ensuring a safe, engaging learning environment on school premises.

Under general supervision, the assistant will collaborate with staff, follow Board policies, and participate in duties such as attendance, transportation support, and professional development as needed.

Qualifications

• CDA credential is required.
• Associate's degree in childcare/early childhood or related field preferred; six documented college hours per year until completion.
• Bachelor's degree in birth-kindergarten or related fields acceptable; work experience in an early childhood setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to help master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, etc.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Coordinate instructional efforts by discussing duties with the classroom teacher.
• Instruct and monitor students in use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
• Observe student performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
• Present subject matter to students under teacher guidance using appropriate delivery methods.
• Assist with checking materials, portfolios, supervising, and testing as requested.
• Maintain clean classroom learning centers and assist with attendance procedures and record keeping.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards, displays, equipment, and demonstrations.
• Participate in daily bus, car, and van transportation duties for arrivals and departures.
