Job summary

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, 60 college credits or Praxis, and strong communication skills. Compliance with health and background checks is required, with opportunities for training and professional

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Sixty college credits, Associates Degree or pass Praxis Exam.
• Knowledge of child growth and development and appropriate classroom practices.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., TB test).
• May require completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid or behavior management training.
• Criminal history and health clearances as per NJ requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in delivery of instructional activities.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Operates and maintains classroom equipment.
• Distribute and collect materials, check notebooks, monitor tests and make-up work.
• Assist with supervision during drills, assemblies, field trips and other activities.
• Help organize bulletin boards and classroom displays.
• Read to students and engage in oral reading activities.
• Perform clerical duties related to the instructional program.
• Support very young students with clothing, snack routines and toileting.
