Job summary

Sylvania in Canon City is seeking a Part-time Transportation Support worker for the Fremont RE-1 School District. You will assist in the transportation of Pre-K students, including those in special education, and help implement IEP-driven programs under the Transportation Manager.

The role requires reliability, teamwork, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Training in Mandt and strong data security practices are required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate school buses in accordance with regulations and rules.
  • Perform pre- and post-route safety inspections and keep buses clean.
  • Maintain student conduct on the bus and promote safety.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Maintain confidentiality with special education information and follow IEPs.
  • Safely maneuver wheelchairs and transfer students when needed.
  • Complete required paperwork and keep accurate records.
  • Coordinate with Transportation leadership and office staff.
  • Report accidents/incidents promptly.
  • Attend required trainings and uphold district vehicle rules.
  • Administer first aid and ensure safe transfer for wheelchair users.

Start Date: As agreed for the 2026-2027 School Year
Position Type: Part-time, 163 days per year
Location: District/Transportation

Salary: Determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on experience and education. Range: $16.50- $17.49 per hour.

Purpose of the Job: Provide general support for the transportation of Pre-K students under the guidance of the Bus Driver and Transportation Manager, including specialized support for Pre-K students in special education. Implement specialized programming and assist students with individualized needs to and from school.

  • Data Security: Implement appropriate measures to protect district data, maintain secure passwords, and follow district technology policies.
  • Transportation: May be required to transport students in district vehicles.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to supervise students inside/outside, sometimes in inclement weather, and provide physical assistance as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities

Daily Operations:

  • Operate school buses in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations and CDE rules.
  • Perform pre- and post-route safety inspections on vehicles and ensure vehicle cleanliness.
  • Maintain student conduct on the bus and promote safety for all students.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus.

Special Education Additional Duties

  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all special education student information.
  • Follow IEP-driven instructional programs as directed by supervising teachers.
  • Safely maneuver and secure wheelchairs, assisting students with safe transfer to and from wheelchairs as needed.

Administrative Duties:

  • Complete required paperwork and electronic documentation promptly.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Transportation and Transportation Secretary to maintain accurate records.
  • Report all accidents/incidents to transportation management immediately.

Training and Compliance:

  • Attend district-required training programs, meetings, and in-services.
  • Uphold district policies, including school vehicle passenger rules.

Student Support:

  • Administer first aid as necessary and ensure safe transfer procedures for students in wheelchairs.
  • Maintain confidentiality for special education students and follow IEP-specific instructional programs as directed.

Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other:

  • Proficient with standard office and specialized equipment needed for individual student accommodations.
  • Basic technology skills as directed by the District for effective communication and recordkeeping.
