Position Title: Metal Building Estimator
Salary Range: $80,000–$115,000 / annually, DOE + Discretionary Bonus
Bring speed, precision, and ownership to a growing preconstruction team where the quality of your estimates directly impacts the business. This Metal Building Estimator will lead detailed takeoffs and cost estimating for pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) and structural steel projects ranging from $50K to $10M, building accurate proposals that account for materials, labor, buyouts, and project-specific requirements. This is a high-volume environment where bids move quickly, and details matter. The ideal candidate has hands-on PEMB, structural steel, or metal building estimating experience and knows how to produce complete, competitive estimates independently without sacrificing accuracy for speed.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for PEMB, structural steel, and metal building projects ranging from $50K to $10M
- Develop complete project cost estimates incorporating materials, labor, buyouts, overhead, and other project-specific costs
- Solicit, analyze and level vendor quotes to ensure third-party materials and buyout scopes are accurately captured
- Partner with sales, engineering and preconstruction teams to translate customer requirements into clear, buildable and cost-effective scopes
- Assemble professional bid packages with clearly defined pricing, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions
- Maintain accurate cost models while identifying opportunities to improve estimating efficiency, margins and overall bid accuracy
- Manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment while targeting accurate turnaround times of approximately 2–3 days per estimate
Requirements
- 3+ years of estimating experience within pre-engineered metal buildings, structural steel buildings, or metal building systems on the manufacturing or erection side
- Proven experience estimating projects in the $200K–$600K range or higher
- Ability to independently perform full quantity takeoffs and build complete job costs covering labor, materials, buyouts, and overhead
- Demonstrated success producing accurate, competitive bids in a high-volume, fast-turn preconstruction environment
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to learn and adapt to evolving estimating, ERP, and internal tracking systems
- Highly detail-oriented, dependable, and organized with the ability to balance accuracy, speed, and changing priorities
- Construction-related degree preferred, though equivalent hands-on industry experience will be strongly considered
