Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a Preconstruction Leader to support the Midwest region and our Energy Services segment. In this role you will develop turnkey design-build projects, scope development, cost estimating, and proposal support, collaborating with internal teams and customers to win work.

You will apply strong knowledge of building systems and construction processes, coordinate with Account Managers and subcontractors, and help drive successful project execution with occasional travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent experience.
  • P.E. license preferred; relevant construction project development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical/electrical/plumbing disciplines, and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Discusses and develops turnkey HVAC solutions with cross-functional teams.
  • Collects project data to assemble turnkey scope and estimate.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates and bid documents for accuracy.
  • Support budgets and RFQ development with specs, milestones, and permits.
  • Provide technical support in pursuit of Trane business and engage vendor relations.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements.

Preconstruction Leader

Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Preconstruction Leader primarily serving the Midwest a area, and supporting our Midwest regional offices. As a Preconstruction Leader, you will be supporting one of the most challenging and fastest growing career fields, Trane Technologies Energy Services. This role includes working with internal teams and customers to identify and develop turnkey design-build contracting projects, including scope of work development, cost estimating, and proposal support as part of an industry leading Energy Services Company (ESCO). A career with an ESCO demands not only a knowledge of building systems and all aspects of its construction, but also requires strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills coupled with the will, determination, work ethic and a desire to succeed. The Preconstruction Leader is responsible for Acquisition Support of both Design-Build Turnkey and Energy Services Contracting project work. This position requires mastery of sales and acquisition processes, technical aptitude, and project management skills.

What you will do
  • Discusses, evaluates, and develops, possible turnkey HVAC solutions with Account Manager, Project Manager, Sub-contractor, Supplier, and/or customer.
  • Collects project data needed to assemble turnkey project scope and estimate.
  • Utilizes plans, specifications, and knowledge of construction industry to analyze project needs and compiles detailed cost estimates.
  • Supports Account Managers in developing and establishing project installation budgets and preparing the sub-contractor request for quotation’s (RFQ) including: scope statements; plans and milestone dates; specs; permitting and bonding requirements.
  • Responsible for creating cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in competitively bidding on or determining price of project.
  • Responsible for submittal review and the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
  • Able to effectively communicate, schedule, analyze information, and take responsibility for estimating duties.
  • Review bid documents for potential conflicts and constructability issues.
  • Communicate with customer, subcontractors, engineers, and designers on changes or adjustments for estimates and ensure all project needs are met.
  • Provide key technical support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation on strategic job acquisition teams.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining vendor and subcontractor relations, along with evaluating and categorizing subcontractors.
  • Assist and support all efforts of acquisition and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide mentorship and second level review of junior preconstruction developers, with an opportunity to manage a small team of preconstruction developers across the region.
  • Contribute to the improvement or creation of business improvement activities including: standard work, trainings, and processes.
  • Some travel required; other duties as assigned.
What you will bring
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • P.E. preferred General Construction Project Development and/or HVAC related work experience required.
  • Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and knowledge with the operation of HVAC systems, electrical systems and temperature controls.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required, including some travel with occasional overnight stays.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Carless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.

  • #ES25 Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range: $113,600.00 - $161,945.00
