Job summary

Gary Comer Youth Center is seeking a part-time Pre-College Success Coordinator to design and deliver programs that prepare high school students for college. You will guide students through applications, provide academic support, and help families access financial aid resources.

You will collaborate with educators and community partners, track student progress, and run workshops on test-taking, essays, and interview skills to foster college readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

Job Purpose

The Pre-College Success Coordinator at Gary Comer Youth Center is responsible for developing and implementing programs that prepare high school students for college readiness. This role involves guiding students through the college application process, providing academic support, and fostering a culture of success and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive pre-college programs that enhance students' academic skills and college readiness.
• Collaborate with educators, counselors, and community partners to ensure alignment of program goals and objectives.
• Provide individualized support and counseling to students regarding college applications, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
• Organize workshops and seminars focused on college preparation, including test-taking strategies, essay writing, and interview skills.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting programs and strategies to meet diverse needs and improve outcomes.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college admissions processes and requirements to effectively advise students and families.
• Foster a supportive and motivating environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
• Track and report on program effectiveness, using data to inform future planning and development.

Qualifications

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth in an educational or community-based setting.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing programs aimed at increasing college readiness and success.
• Experience in coordinating events and workshops focused on educational advancement and career development.

Physical Requirements

The GCYC environment is consistently bustling with youth and community members. The Center's work is fast paced and varied. Our work is done on site where our youth and families are. Therefore, it is required that team members meet the following requirements:

• Have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Able to complete administrative work in a shared office space within a youth center.
