Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Scheduling Specialist to coordinate inpatient and outpatient procedures, tests and studies ordered by physicians, ensuring accurate status updates and timely communication with patients and medical staff. The role requires strong computer skills, attention to confidentiality, and the ability to work in a team to support efficient patient flow and high-quality care.

Experience in a medical office is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent; healthcare coursework preferred.
• Two or more years’ experience in medical office or clinical setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Maintain confidentiality of records.
• Strong interpersonal and phone skills; data entry and scheduling duties.
• Proficient with MS Office and willingness to learn department software.

Responsibilities

• Schedule all inpatient and outpatient surgeries, procedures, tests and studies as ordered by physicians.
• Provide status updates and communicate with patients and physicians regarding authorization and scheduling.

Summary

Responsible for scheduling all inpatient and outpatient surgery and medical procedures, tests and studies ordered by the physician. Provides support and communicates necessary information to patients and physicians regarding status of procedure including authorization and scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications

• Formal Education Required:
• High school education or equivalent; Post-high school level coursework in healthcare or related field preferred.
• Experience and Training Required:
• Computer experience - proficient in MS Word – MS Excel, MS Power Point preferred.
• Two (2) or more years’ experience in medical office or clinical setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
• Must maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, or financial records.
• Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact in person and over the telephone with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel.
• Skill in alphabetical/numerical filing.
• Microcomputer proficiency including at least MS Word; and willingness and ability to acquire such skill to operate application packages used by department (e.g., to enter and retrieve data, register and schedule patients, enter charges, and/or type routine correspondence).
• Ability to perform in a work team environment.
• Ability to effectively interact with all populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
• Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
• Consistently demonstrates excellence in attendance, timeliness, and reliability.
• Level of Physical Demands:
• Sedentary: Exerts up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently
