Job summary

Humble Vascular Surgical Center Inc. is seeking a Preop Registered Nurse to obtain health histories and prepare patients for surgery. The role partners with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the care team to optimize medical status and ensure all clearances are documented.

You will educate patients on pre-surgical protocols, verify consents and records in the EHR, administer meds, and support pre-op/post-op care. The position is PRN, Monday–Friday, on-site in Franklin, TN.

Qualifications

  • Obtain pre-operative health history and pertinent information to evaluate patients prior to surgery.
  • Educate patients on pre-surgical protocols and what to expect during their visit.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and physicians to ensure medical optimization.
  • Verify consents, medical records, and medication reconciliation in the EHR prior to procedure date.
  • Provide total nursing care for pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
  • Discharge pre-operative patients according to facility policies.

  • Documentation: Verify surgical consents and medical records in the EHR before procedure date.
  • Care Provision: Develop and implement nursing care for pre- and post-operative patients.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications and treatments ordered by physicians.
  • Discharge: Discharge pre-operative patients per facility policies.

Monday - Friday: PRN
8am - 4:30pm (8 hours a day/ PRN)
Preop phone calls for surgical patients.

General Summary Of Duties
Obtaining a preop health history and pertinent information from patients to make sure they are properly evaluated prior to surgery. Works closely with other team members and anesthesia.
A Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse evaluates and prepares patients for scheduled surgical or procedural interventions. They conduct physical assessments, review medical histories. The RN educates patients and ensures all clinical and administrative requirements are met to prevent day-of-surgery delays. Periodically this role will work in Pre OP/Recovery to support team and patient care.

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive pre-operative phone interviews to collect medical histories, medication lists, and identify potential surgical or anesthesia risks
  • Pre-Op Education: Teach patients about pre-surgical protocols (such as NPO status, which medications to hold) what to expect during their visit, and basic post-operative care plans
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologist, and physicians to ensure patients are medical optimized and that all necessary clearances are in the chart.
  • Verify surgical consents, medical records and medication reconciliation in the EHR system prior to procedure date
  • Assesses, develops and implements total nursing care for the pre-operative and post-operative patients
  • Administer medications and treatments ordered by the physician.
  • Cares and discharges pre-operative patients according to facility policies
