Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minneapolis invites students in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering to join as a summer intern. You will work with engineers on project development, perform field walkdowns, analyze data, and prepare engineering products under a mentor.

The internship runs May 24, 2027, with full-time hours in summer and part-time during the school year, with a hybrid in-person policy. Applicants must be enrolled as a current student and capable of commuting to the designated

Qualifications

• Currently a student, Sophomore or higher enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute in-person to the designated work location per the hybrid policy.

Work with engineers on various projects for development of plant design changes, life cycle management plans, system improvements, system and program health reporting. Other projects identified by managers to improve plant equipment reliability.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $21.20 to $24.60 per hour
