Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an engineering intern for a May 24, 2027 start, based in Minnesota with hybrid work options. You will work with engineers on plant design changes, life cycle plans, system improvements, and health reporting, while supporting staff engineers and mentors on project documentation.

Work with engineers on various projects for development of plant design changes, life cycle management plans, system improvements, system and program health reporting. Other projects identified by managers to improve plant equipment reliability.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Perform field walkdowns
• Analyze data make recommendations for actions to be taken
• Provide support to staff engineers on preparation of engineering products
• Generate reports and documentation as directed by engineering mentor

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
