Practice Support Assistant (Clinic Receptionist) – Full Time (40 hrs/week)
Location: BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital, Neuroscience Center, Kalamazoo, MI.

Responsibilities
- Answer phones, greet patients, schedule appointments, and provide general patient support.
- Perform patient check‑in and registration, confirm demographic and insurance information, and enter data into the practice management system.
- Enter charges/payments into MISYS/Tiger or other practice management system, using appropriate ICD‑9 and CPT codes.
- Collect co‑payments and process payments.
- Manage telephone calls, take messages, route callers, and relay information.
- Maintain patient medical records according to required standards.
- Obtain patient authorization for transfer of private health information.
- Perform basic office duties (sorting, copying, filing, faxing, ordering supplies).
- Format, type, and proofread correspondence and reports.
- Maintain a clean unit environment and report equipment problems.
- Support provider schedules, run reports from MISYS/Tiger, and prepare deposit verification.
- Assist with special projects and assignments as directed by management.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
- Demonstrate teamwork, integrity, kindness, and respect toward patients, families, visitors, customers, and employees.
- Adhere to hospital safety and infection control policies.
Additional Duties (Practice Centralized Services)
- Focus on demographic and insurance entry for all clinical patients.
- Review accounts for missing or inaccurate information and communicate with office staff at each location to ensure accurate registration.
- Assist with registration for new patients, patients not seen in over a year, patients with flagged accounts, inactive insurance, or those marked as auto/workers’ comp.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3–6 months of related experience.
- Previous experience with medical insurance highly preferred.
- Keyboarding and computer skills; proficiency with hospital‑based practice management systems (e.g., Medic, Misys, Tiger).
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to file accurately, and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong math skills and ability to use basic office equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adherence to hospital safety and infection control policies.
Physical and Work Environment
The job produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue and involves regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
