Job summary

Tufts University’s Environmental Studies Program invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Professor of the Practice in Food Systems, beginning September 1, 2027. The 9-month academic appointment is paid over 12 months with an initial two-year contract and possible renewal.

The role emphasizes teaching and connecting students with food systems practitioners through internships and external collaborations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten years of professional experience in food systems or a closely related field outside of academia.
• Demonstrated professional accomplishment and leadership in areas of food systems practice (e.g., production, policy, sustainability) with a focus on impact.
• Experience mentoring, training, advising, or supporting learning and professional development of students or other learners.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses (e.g., Introduction to Food Systems, Practicing in Food Systems) and supervise senior theses and internships.
• Lead co-curricular programming that connects students with food systems practitioners and externships.
• Build external partnerships and engage alumni networks to create experiential learning opportunities.
