LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full-time 40 hours per week

OFFICE HOURS: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-9:00pm, Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm

Position Summary: To provide nursing services to patients at a provider’s office. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: pediatric infant to 12 years, adolescent 13 to 17 years, adult 18 to 64 years, and geriatric over 64 years.

  • Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following duties:
  • Provide clinical advice by phone or electronic correspondence based on clinical judgments and triage protocols, in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice. Consult with provider as necessary.
  • Provide patient-specific education including preventive care, chronic disease management, acute diagnosis, medications, and other areas pertinent to patient outcomes.
  • Prepare patient for visit by using appropriate rooming standards tools.
  • Administer injections and medications as prescribed by the provider, following departmental protocols, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
  • Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by the provider.
  • Perform Point of Care Testing, including hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Collect blood or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for testing.
  • Authorize prescription refills as instructed by the provider.
  • Assist with test tracking and monitoring overdue results.
  • Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
  • Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit. Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • Assist provider and patient in reviewing and revising care plans and assess patient progress. Follow up with patients between visits as necessary.
  • Assist with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventive and chronic disease services.
  • Perform care coordination activities among specialists and transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.
  • Assist in coordination of referrals, education, and community resources.
  • Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and quality of care.
  • Participate in daily huddles with the provider.
  • Serve as a patient experience advocate by maintaining professionalism and positive interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues. Prioritize customer service.
  • Handle all patient information confidentially, in accordance with Lancaster General Health policies.

The following duties are secondary to primary duties:

  • Perform various front office responsibilities as necessary.
  • Regional travel may be required; a valid driver’s license is necessary if traveling.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an LPN or RN educational program.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), issued by the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • AHA CPR BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to travel regionally to multiple sites.
  • One to two years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care physician’s office.
  • Prior experience in triage, emergency room, cardiac care, intensive care, or related specialty nursing.

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in PA, required.
