We are seeking an experienced, organized, and people-focused Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our accounting firm. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring the practice runs efficiently, our team has the support and resources they need to succeed, and our clients receive consistently high-quality service.
The Practice Manager will have primary responsibility for office operations and Human Resources, working closely with the Managing Partner and leadership team to support the firm's growth, culture, and overall success.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the accounting practice and ensure efficient workflow across the firm.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, policies, and systems.
- Coordinate administrative functions, technology, office facilities, vendors, and supplies.
- Monitor workflow, staffing levels, deadlines, and overall practice efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and client service.
- Support the partners and accounting staff with operational needs.
- Help ensure the firm remains compliant with applicable business and employment requirements.
Human Resources
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee-related matters.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation.
- Coordinate payroll, benefits, vacation/PTO, and employee leave administration.
- Develop and maintain employee policies and the firm's employee handbook.
- Support performance management, employee evaluations, and professional development.
- Address employee concerns and help resolve workplace issues fairly and professionally.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional workplace culture.
- Coordinate training and continuing education opportunities.
- Ensure HR practices comply with applicable employment laws and regulations, with outside HR/legal support as appropriate.
Leadership & Culture
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and firm leadership.
- Foster accountability, teamwork, communication, and professionalism.
- Help establish clear expectations and consistent policies across the firm.
- Assist leadership with strategic planning and implementation of firm initiatives.
- Support organizational growth and change management.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in office management, practice management, operations, Human Resources, or a related leadership role.
- Experience managing HR functions, preferably in a professional services environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee and business information with discretion.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in an accounting, CPA, legal, financial services, or other professional services firm is preferred.
