Job summary

McKool Smith is seeking a Practice Innovation Attorney to lead the firm's adoption of AI and legal technology, educating attorneys and designing AI-enabled workflows that improve efficiency and client service.

This role focuses on governance, training, and collaboration across practice groups, IT, and Knowledge Management to ensure responsible, effective use of AI in complex matters.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3–5+ years of legal practice experience, preferably in litigation or complex commercial matters.
  • Experience designing and delivering attorney training, legal technology, knowledge management, or innovation initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI platforms such as Harvey, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar tools.
  • Strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technology into practical guidance for attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver AI training programs, workshops, and one-on-one coaching to build attorney proficiency with generative AI tools across the firm.
  • Develop practical training resources, including prompt libraries, user guides, and best practices that support attorneys at every stage of AI adoption.
  • Partner with attorneys, practice groups, IT, and Knowledge Management to identify opportunities to integrate AI into legal workflows, including research, drafting, document review, and other core legal tasks.
  • Lead AI pilot programs, evaluate adoption, gather feedback, and refine workflows to promote firm-wide utilization and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain AI governance resources, including usage guidelines, best practices, and quality assurance processes that support ethical, secure, and responsible use of AI technologies in compliance with professional responsibility standards.
  • Monitor developments in legal AI and emerging technologies, evaluate new tools, and collaborate with vendors to maximize the firm's investment in innovation.
