Job summary

Porter and Chester Institute in Hamden, CT seeks a Practical Nursing Program Lead Instructor to guide the PN program, lead faculty, mentor students, and ensure high‑quality clinical education. This full-time role requires CT RN licensure, 3+ years of nursing, BSN with willingness to pursue MSN within four years, and classroom teaching/leadership experience; travel to multiple campuses is expected.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid Registered Nursing (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience as RN.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) and willingness to pursue Master’s Degree within 4 years; or MSN with BSN.
  • 3 years of classroom teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred
  • 2 years of leadership and management experience preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel to multiple campuses

Responsibilities

  • Teach a minimum of 26 instructional hours per week through classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction.
  • Lead and mentor faculty to ensure high-quality instruction and a positive student learning experience.
  • Bring real-world nursing experience into classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Develop clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, professionalism, and career-readiness skills.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, demonstrations, simulations, and clinical learning experiences.
  • Mentor students throughout their nursing education and monitor performance and attendance.
  • Maintain curriculum, course materials, assessments, and LMS content.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reports; support student academic, attendance, financial, and career needs.
  • Ensure safe, competent nursing practice before progression and build relationships with clinical partners.
  • Participate in monthly PN education management team meetings and compliance with ACCSC standards and CT Board requirements
  • Provide ongoing professional development and support to instructors and staff

As the Practical Nursing Program Lead Instructor, you’ll combine hands‑on nursing knowledge with instructional leadership to help ensure students receive high‑quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical education.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Practical Nursing Program Lead Instructor, you’ll provide direct instruction while serving as a leader, mentor, and resource for faculty and students.

You will:

  • Teach a minimum of 26 instructional hours per week through classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction.
  • Lead and mentor faculty to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction and a positive student learning experience.
  • Bring your real‑world nursing experience into the classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Help students connect nursing theory to real patient‑care situations and develop clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, professionalism, and career‑readiness skills.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, demonstrations, simulations, patient‑care scenarios, competency evaluations, and clinical learning experiences.
  • Mentor students throughout their nursing education, including students who may be struggling academically, clinically, or with attendance.
  • Develop and implement student success and retention strategies to help students stay on track and graduate successfully.
  • Monitor student academic, attendance, laboratory, and clinical performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Conduct and document faculty classroom and clinical observations while providing coaching, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Ensure curriculum, course materials, assessments, and LMS content are current, consistent, accessible, and aligned with program outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate academic, attendance, clinical, and faculty documentation and complete required reports.
  • Support students with academic, attendance, financial, and career needs through appropriate referrals and interventions.
  • Ensure students demonstrate safe, competent, and professional nursing practice before progressing through the program.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and well‑equipped classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments.
  • Build strong relationships with clinical partners, employers, faculty, students, and other program stakeholders.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the PN education management team, to review program updates, student outcomes, faculty needs, clinical operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support compliance with ACCSC standards, Connecticut State Board of Examiners for Nursing requirements, institutional policies, and PN academic and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in orientations, campus meetings, graduation activities, professional development, continuing education, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain all required nursing licenses and certifications.

  • Current, valid Registered Nursing (RN) license in the State of Connecticut required
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience as RN required
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) and willing to pursue Master's Degree in Nursing or related field within 4 years of hire date; or currently hold an MSN or Master's in related field with BSN required
  • 3 years of classroom teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred
  • 2 years of successful leadership and management experience preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel to multiple campuses
  • Ability to use common software programs (MS Word/Excel/Outlook etc.)
  • Ability to train others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
