Position Summary

The Clinical Instructor (CI) bridges classroom theory and hands-on patient care by providing direct supervision, instruction, and evaluation of practical nursing students. Operating primarily in clinical settings such as hospitals and long-term care facilities, the CI also supports learning in the skills lab and simulation environments. This role ensures students safely apply medical knowledge, develop critical thinking and clinical judgment, and build bedside competency while demonstrating ethical practice aligned with the mission and values of Tooele Technical College.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Supervision & Instruction: Guide, supervise, and evaluate practical nursing students during direct patient care experiences in various clinical settings.
• Lab & Simulation Support: Assist with instruction, scenario facilitation, and skill check-offs in the skills lab and simulation environments.
• Competency Assessment: Evaluate student performance against course objectives, ensuring mastery of essential clinical competencies, safety protocols, and ethical nursing standards.
• Mentorship & Judgment: Foster critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and professional behavior in students at the bedside.
• Program Alignment: Maintain active communication with faculty and adhere to the curriculum, policies, and values of the Practical Nursing Program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Three years’ experience as a nurse providing direct patient care
• Holds a current State of Utah Registered Nursing License in good standing
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Certified Nurse Educator, preferred
