Summary

McHenry is a city in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb and part of the Chicago metropolitan area, located about 37 miles northwest of Chicago. According to the 2020 census, the population was 27,135. McHenry was once the county seat of McHenry County, which previously included adjoining Lake County to the east. Positions are located in the McHenry CBOC.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3j.
• Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure (must provide a copy) as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.
• Experience and Education: For GS-04, six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN, or graduation from an approved school with one year of experience; for GS-05, completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at GS-4 or equivalent; for GS-06, at least 1 additional year of experience at GS-5 level.

Grade Determinations:

Qualifications must demonstrate the competence required for each grade, with detailed criteria listed for GS-03 through GS-06.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the physical ability to perform job duties, including moderate lifting, standing, walking, reaching, use of fingers, and rapid coordination. A health exam is required prior to assignment and periodically thereafter. Intermittent exposure to blood and body fluids is expected.

Duties

• Observe and document patient care thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Recognize and intervene in urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeking RN/provider assistance as needed.
• Participate in team meetings, review schedules, and cover areas as needed.
• Provide nursing care, including vital signs, oxygen therapy, medication administration, specimen collection, and processing.
• Assist with minor procedures, patient education, and emergency response.
• Participate in care coordination, patient education, and promotion of Whole Health Initiatives.
• Demonstrate professional behavior, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Respond to medical emergencies and assist in orientation and precepting of new staff.
• Use evidence-based practice to improve patient care and participate in interdisciplinary initiatives.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.
