Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Powertrain Engine Calibration Engineer to join an innovative powertrain engineering team. In this role, you will lead calibration system integration activities across multiple powertrain subsystems, ensuring optimal vehicle performance, emissions compliance, fuel economy, safety, and drivability. Responsibilities
- Lead calibration system integration activities across engine, transmission, driveline, and electrified powertrain systems.
- Retain lead calibrator responsibilities within one of the existing calibration areas, including:
- Transmission
- Torque Control
- Engine D&E
- ePT E&D
- OBD
- Torque Security
- Ensure vehicle calibrations meet performance, emissions, fuel economy, OBD regulatory compliance, torque security, system safety, and drivability requirements.
- Lead and coordinate calibration test trips involving multiple calibration teams.
- Promote efficient sharing of vehicles, resources, and development activities across calibration groups.
- Facilitate collaborative calibration development efforts among engineering teams.
- Establish common vehicle INCA experiments and data collection processes.
- Chair weekly calibration build meetings for assigned propulsion systems.
- Manage engineering resources including:
- Simulation environments
- Bench testing
- Engine dynamometers
- Powertrain dynamometers
- Vehicle testing
- Communicate key technical decisions and program status to senior leadership.
- Escalate project risks and issues when necessary to support successful program execution.
- Coordinate and verify powercube calibration releases across all propulsion system modules.
- Plan and track quality gates (QGs) to ensure achievement of project objectives.
What's Needed?
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in powertrain development, calibration, or powertrain systems development.
- Prior experience leading teams of engineers in powertrain development and/or calibration activities.
- Strong understanding of:
- Internal combustion engine fundamentals
- Transmission systems
- Electrified powertrains
- Powertrain controls
- Calibration methodologies
- Lead Calibrator experience in at least one of the following:
- Transmission
- Torque Control
- Engine D&E
- ePT E&D
- OBD
- Torque Security
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in technical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Experience developing and calibrating spark ignition engines, transmissions, and electrified powertrains.
- Powertrain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development and verification experience.
