Job summary

Roush in Livonia, MI seeks a Powertrain Development Engineering Intern for Fall 2026. You will work with engineers and technicians on customer testing programs in dynamometer and emissions labs, learning to assimilate new developments and respond to evolving situations.

The paid internship requires pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s in mechanical or automotive engineering, 40-hour weeks, sophomore standing, strong Excel, valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel or work overtime.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
  • Available for Fall 2026 and able to work a 40-hour week.
  • Minimum sophomore standing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel and/or work overtime on request.
  • Hands-on automotive background with engines and controls.
  • Able to work in a team with customers, engineers, designers, lab technicians, mechanics, machinists and engine builders.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with rapid problem-solving and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a supporting role for customer automotive engineering and testing projects.
  • Coordinate internal support activities including dynamometer and emissions testing, machine shop, engine build, fabrication and garage services.
  • Carry out engine dynamometer and vehicle-based emissions testing and support related program activities (engine setup, data acquisition and reporting, data review, etc.).
  • Support component and system design activities as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations for program reviews.
  • Review and process dynamometer test cell and engine ECU data.
  • Diagnose engine and dynamometer hardware/controls issues and verify proper functionality.
  • Manage inventory of engine components and related test hardware.
  • Seek continuous improvement strategies for increased quality and throughput.
  • Assist with customer correspondences.
