Structural Mechanical Systems in Newport News is seeking an experienced Marine Powertool/ Painter to prepare, paint, and maintain marine vessels and related structures. Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dependableMarine Powertool/ Painterto prepare, paint, and maintain marine vessels and related structures. The Marine Painter will be responsible for surface preparation, application of primers and protective coatings, and ensuring a high-quality finish while following safety and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare vessel surfaces by sanding, grinding, scraping, blasting, and cleaning.
  • Apply primers, paints, anti-fouling coatings, protective coatings, and marine finishes.
  • Perform brush, roller, and spray painting as required.
  • Inspect surfaces for corrosion, damage, peeling, and other defects before painting.
  • Mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Protect surrounding equipment and areas from overspray and paint contamination.
  • Perform touch-ups, repairs, and recoating as needed.
  • Operate and maintain painting equipment and tools.
  • Follow OSHA, company, and environmental safety procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and fall-protection equipment when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work safely in confined spaces, elevated areas, shipyards, docks, and onboard vessels when required.
  • Complete work according to project schedules and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a marine painter, industrial painter, shipyard painter, or similar position preferred.
  • Knowledge of marine coatings, primers, paints, and surface-preparation techniques.
  • Ability to operate painting and surface-preparation equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow product specifications and safety instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
  • OSHA, confined-space, respirator, or spray-painting certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying weather and marine conditions.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection and other required PPE.
Work Environment

Work may be performed in shipyards, dry docks, marine facilities, onboard vessels, and other industrial environments. The position may involve exposure to paint fumes, dust, noise, chemicals, heights, confined spaces, and changing weather conditions.
