Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, a trade school equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Strong knowledge of math, physics and chemistry as they apply to plant operations.
• Significant powerhouse or boiler/turbine operation experience.
• Solid mechanical aptitude.
• Strong safety standards knowledge.
• Thorough knowledge of boilers, turbines, generators and related equipment.
• Ability to prepare and maintain routine operation records and reports.
• Must be able to perform duties in high heat and noise environments.
• Ability to work with others with tact and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Monitor boilers and turbine generators and respond to load changes.
• Perform rounds, read gauges, monitor control screens and adjust controls.
• Conduct boiler blow-downs and test safety controls.
• Inspect, install and repair piping, valves, pumps and safety devices.
• Record readings of pressure, temperature and flow.
• Add chemicals and maintain boiler water balance.
• Start up and shut down boilers; operate turbine generators.
• Maintain equipment through routine maintenance and checks.
• Observe safety procedures and use protective equipment.
• Coordinate work with assistants as needed.
