Position Summary

BRIDGESTONE AMERICAS TIRE OPERATIONS, LLC (FIRESTONE) DES MOINES PLANT, one of the largest manufacturing corporations in Iowa, is currently seeking a certified and experienced factory maintenance Skilled Trade worker for an opening as a Powerhouse Boiler Operator.

Qualified candidates will be required to pass a technical interview with our Skilled Trades Committee. Starting wage of $39.35 / hour.

Teammates are required to work on a continuous operations schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. The work weeks run Sunday through Saturday. Applicants must be able to work either day shift or night shift. Day shift is from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. Night shift is from 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. Teammates must be able to work a shift schedule with 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next week.
Shift schedule is subject to change.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain boilers, stationary engines, and mechanical equipment, such as air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, feed water pumps, water softeners, reverse osmosis and filtration systems, cooling towers, and heaters in the steam and water system.
• Monitor meters and gauges to determine operating conditions of equipment and make necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure efficient performance.
• Keep clerical records, such as temperatures of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumption, and analysis of flue gases.
• Observe prescribed safety regulations pertaining to the use and care of boilers and equipment.
• Change charts related to Powerhouse and Curing Services; make startup and shutdown of Curing systems.
• Perform inspection rounds, repair pumps in place, including coupling, uncoupling, and pump/motor alignment. Make pump replacement parts crib items, set pump thrust after startup.
• Repair valves by repacking and replacement; repair and replace piping and gaskets on main utility piping as assigned.
• Take samples, perform tests, and service all steam and water chemical treatment systems in the powerhouse, plant, and warehouse.
• Transport equipment, tools, and machinery to the job site as required.
• Perform simple electric or oxyacetylene welding and cutting; use other hand tools to fabricate or repair metal parts for efficient Powerhouse operations. Remove and replace guards or minor machine elements interfering with work.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be dependable, reliable, hardworking, self-motivated, and willing to learn. All applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Have at least 5 years of Boiler Operations experience.
• Possess a City of Des Moines 1st Class Engineers License OR take and pass the 1st Class Engineers License test within 90 days of hiring.
• Experience with operations/maintenance of steam and condensate systems, air compressors/air systems, and pumps/pumping systems.

Experience in electrical and welding skills is a plus.
