JOB PURPOSE

The Power Trader II, Commercial Optimization & Market Operations, is responsible for market execution and commercial decision making that protect and enhance the value of Pattern’s operating assets and portfolio. The role manages day-ahead through long-term market exposures, aligns trading activity with asset economics and contractual obligations, and translates market opportunities into measurable improvements in risk-adjusted portfolio value. Success is evaluated primarily through value preservation and value creation for the portfolio, within approved risk, compliance, liquidity, and operational limits.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Own the execution of day-ahead, real-time, and term transactions across applicable U.S. power markets, consistent with approved portfolio strategies and risk limits.
  • Optimize physical generation, storage, transmission, and contractual positions by integrating market conditions, asset availability, operating constraints, congestion, curtailment, basis, and settlement outcomes.
  • Develop and execute hedging strategies that manage revenue, price, volume, shape, and basis exposures while supporting asset budgets and portfolio objectives.
  • Assess trading decisions using risk-adjusted portfolio value, downside protection, cash-flow stability, and performance against approved plans as the primary measures of success.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve asset and portfolio economics, including contract optimization, market participation enhancements, and coordinated dispatch or bidding strategies.
  • Maintain a forward view of market fundamentals and portfolio exposures across short-term, mid-term, and long-term horizons, and recommend actions based on expected value and risk.
  • Partner with Asset Management, Risk, Finance, Performance Management, Operations, Settlements, Regulatory, and Legal teams to align market activity with physical capability, contractual requirements, and enterprise objectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on electricity markets, market rules, and the interaction between market conditions and renewable asset performance.
  • Monitor positions, limits, controls, and trading compliance; ensure complete, accurate, and timely trade capture, documentation, and escalation of exceptions.
  • Analyze realized and expected portfolio performance, explain key value drivers and variances, and incorporate lessons learned into future strategies and operating plans.
  • Contribute to portfolio planning, budgeting, and investment decisions by providing market intelligence, scenario analysis, and commercial recommendations.
  • Promote a disciplined, transparent, and collaborative trading culture centered on ownership, sound judgment, and sustainable portfolio value.
