Job summary

1898 & Co. in Chicago seeks an Energy & Utilities Analyst to assist with power system studies, life-cycle cost analyses, and regulatory impact assessments for fossil and renewable generation projects.

You will support planning, economic evaluations, and client presentations under supervision of a consultant or project manager, leveraging engineering and financial insights within a dynamic utility consulting practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering, or related degree from an accredited program required.
  • Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, interprets, and applies engineering, financial, and economic conditions to complete assigned tasks for client projects.
  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering and financial concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within consulting services.
  • Assists with analyzing life-cycle costs by developing and incorporating technical assumptions regarding capital costs, O&M costs, performance estimates, and forecasts.
  • Assists project team with technical assessments evaluating regulatory rule impacts.
  • Assists with designing, reviewing, and modifying drawings for project requirements.
  • Supports power system planning and operations analysis incl. power flow, stability, short circuit, and economic dispatch.
  • Performs technical, engineering, economic, and financial studies for utilities planning and operations.
  • Supports transmission/distribution study analysis using power system software.
  • Supports assessments for fossil and renewable generation.
  • Supports developing technical reports and client presentations.
  • Prepares and administers contract-related design/planning documentation for utility systems.
