Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories in Boise, Idaho, seeks a Software Engineering Intern to join our Engineering Services team. You will work with engineers on design, implementation, and test for software tools used in power system protection and control, with full-time summer hours and part-time during the school year.

The role emphasizes learning, collaboration, and hands-on coding in Python and C#, with optional experience in VBA, Java, Perl, Ruby, and C++.

Qualifications

• Are a current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or equivalent with at least one year of technical coursework completed, and graduating in May or December 2028.
• Are able to work on-site in Boise, ID full-time in the summer & part-time during the school year.
• Have experience with Python and C#.
• Have an understanding of digital logic and Boolean equations.
• Have optional experience with VBA, Java, Perl, Ruby and C++.
• Are able to learn new software, understand APIs required to interact with various software platforms.
• Are able to execute and document defined testing procedures
• Have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Are able to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Are able to work cooperatively in a team environment
• Have background check results satisfactory to SEL & negative drug test result(s)

Responsibilities

• Supporting SEL’s software development process.
• Implementing software design and automated scripts.
• Verifying that software meets requirements.
• Providing support to engineering staff as needed.
