Job summary

Mission Critical Group (MCG) is seeking a Mechanical Designer to develop accurate, manufacturable sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear.

The role collaborates with electrical designers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel to meet customer specs, safety standards, and design-for-manufacture goals, while driving quality and efficiency across projects.

Qualifications

• 0-1 years of progressive mechanical design experience, with significant exposure to switchgear or power distribution equipment manufacturing.
• 0-1 years hands-on experience with sheet metal design and conductive bus bar for low- to medium-voltage applications.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoDesk Inventor; familiarity with additional 3D CAD tools is a plus.
• Experience preparing parts lists, BOMs, and assembly drawings for manufacturing.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, press brake operations, and CNC punching.
• Understanding of product lifecycle management, design for manufacturability, and cost optimization.
• Proven ability to lead complex mechanical design projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ERP/MRP systems such as IFS or SAP.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly.
• Advanced mathematical skills for dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using CAD software, specifically AutoDesk Inventor.
• Ensure designs meet manufacturability, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate structural and copper bus elements into customer drawings.
• Support project execution by partnering with project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service.
• Prepare BOMs, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing in a timely manner.
• Reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs where possible.
• Contribute to design reviews and process improvements to enhance quality and reduce costs.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical designers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
