Job description

Step into a day in the field. It’s 7:30 a.m. in the DMV area. You arrive on‑site, review one‑line diagrams, and jump into diagnostics on LV/MV switchgear while a customer’s production line idles. Within minutes, you’re tracing a fault across a PLC input card, validating protective relay settings, and coordinating with a senior engineer to confirm load calculations. By noon, the system is back online, safety logs are updated, and you’re preparing a concise service report and recommendations for preventive maintenance. That’s a typical win for a Power Systems Field Service Specialist at JDC Power Systems, LLC.

What you’ll take on
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems: transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, PLC controls, SCADA interfaces, and related industrial equipment.
  • Independently diagnose issues on‑site with minimal supervision, driving uptime and operational efficiency.
  • Inspect, test, and verify systems meet standards and specifications; lift complex issues collaboratively with senior technicians and engineers.
  • Serve as the customer’s primary technical contact during service visits, delivering clear explanations and practical solutions.
  • Document service activities with precise test results, corrective actions, and performance notes.
  • Plan and prioritize service calls, coordinate parts/resources, and close out tickets on time.
  • Maintain accurate records: inventory, time, equipment usage, and work orders.
  • Leverage remote diagnostic tools; assist both junior and senior technicians in remote troubleshooting.
  • Lead site‑specific safety assessments, conduct briefings, and ensure OSHA and company protocols are followed.
  • Contribute to SOPs, share best practices, and recommend process improvements to elevate service quality.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field) preferred.
  • Certifications: NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, or similar credentials are a plus.
Experience
  • 3–5 years in field service focused on power systems, electrical equipment, or industrial controls.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, service, and repair complex electrical systems and components.
  • Exposure to field service management tools/software is beneficial.
  • Hands‑on work with PLCs, SCADA, transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, and protective relay systems.
Skills
  • Advanced troubleshooting and analytical thinking to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Comfort with electrical tools and test gear (multimeters, relay test sets) and diagnostic software.
  • Clear communicator able to translate technical findings for diverse audiences.
  • Time management to juggle multiple service calls and deadlines.
  • Team‑first mindset and collaborative approach.
Other requirements
  • Frequent travel with overnight stays to customer sites and JDC locations across the country.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong commitment to safety and client satisfaction.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Bonus competencies
  • Experience with low- and medium-voltage systems.
  • Working familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and protective relays.
