Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an experienced Engineer (Power System) to support its Hydroelectric Maintenance and Engineering Team at the F.E. Weymouth Water Treatment Plant in La Verne, CA.

This role leads power system studies and develops models for the district’s facilities up to 230 kV. The position blends analytical work with field engineering, requires travel to Metropolitan facilities, and offers a hybrid schedule with in‑person and remote days; CA PE

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant experience (2 years at Associate Engineer)
• OR Master’s degree in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience (2 years at Associate Engineer)
• Experience modeling, field data collection, and arc flash/short-circuit studies; knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70E and related safety standards

Responsibilities

• Conduct power system studies across Metropolitan facilities (short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, motor starting, and equipment duty analyses)
• Develop and maintain power system models and validate data from field investigations
• Develop protective relay settings and arc flash analyses with device coordination and PPE labeling
• Provide engineering support for medium- and high-voltage equipment up to 230 kV; evaluate diagnostic test results
• Support reliability and safe operation by analyzing equipment performance and failures and providing recommendations
• Provide leadership and field engineering support by reviewing designs, developing standards, and coordinating consultants and vendors
