Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Power Systems Engineer focused on automation projects. You will lead planning, design, testing, and commissioning for data collection from system IEDs and SCADA client interfaces, ensuring safe and economical power system operation.

Responsibilities include technical leadership, customer meetings, and project execution from design through commissioning. Travel up to 20% domestically and abroad is expected.

Qualifications

• Understanding of project engineering scope relative to budget.
• Ownership of schedule and self-starting mindset.
• Strong communication to be the direct technical contact for customers.
• Ability to design control logic schemes and network configurations.
• Experience with IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects to plan applications for customers.
• Join customer meetings to provide SEL equipment expertise.
• Define and oversee multiple objectives with minimal guidance.
• Research SEL equipment and third‑party solutions.
• Design specifications, drawings, and product configurations.
• Factory testing and commissioning procedures.
• Technical lead of the project engineering team.
