Job summary

HDR is seeking a Power Project Engineer (Substation Design) to join our growing team. You will assist in power substation design, grounding, protection, and control systems, working with a multidisciplinary team and coordinating with governing agencies.

You will mentor junior engineers, prepare scopes and budgets, and ensure on-time deliverables while upholding HDR's employee-owned culture and commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• 3+ years in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Experience with substation design including One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Grounding & Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Material Lists, Relay and Control Systems, Control Schematics and Wiring Diagrams.
• Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm.

Responsibilities

• Understand substation design including layouts, grounding, and protection.
• Prepare scopes, schedules, and budgets and ensure they are met.
• Handle protection and control design including panels and wiring.
• Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC loads).
• Review project documents for conflicts with other disciplines.
• Write and edit project specifications.
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and testing.
• Coordinate the power design team through design phases.
• Meet with governing agencies for code compliance.
• Coordinate workload to complete deliverables on schedule.
• Provide construction contract administration as needed.
• Mentor, train, and supervise engineers or designers as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.
