Job summary

The City of San José Energy Department is hiring a Power Resources Specialist I/II to support risk management and contracts administration for a portfolio of renewable projects. This full-time, hybrid role is based in downtown San José and offers meaningful work improving energy policy, contracts, and environmental compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a related field and has strong analytical, negotiation, and data skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Natural Resources, Statistics, or an analytical field.
  • Power Resources Specialist II requires one year of energy resources operations, planning, purchasing, scheduling, or contract negotiations.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s license may be required.
  • This is a hybrid position with onsite in the Downtown San Jose office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Review, understand, and interpret PPAs; oversee settlement statements and invoices for timely, accurate settlements.
  • Oversee environmental compliance frameworks, including portfolio position forecasting, risk management, reporting, and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders during contract negotiation as SME on settlements and environmental portfolio management.
  • Interpret, analyze, and resolve issues during settlements validation and support dispute resolution.
  • Maintain understanding of CAISO market processes to review and validate settlements.
  • Analyze settlement and market data to provide insights and support decision-making.
