Job summary

PG&E in Fresno is seeking an associate-level Power Quality Engineer to join a team delivering safe, reliable electric service. You will work under supervision to identify and resolve power quality issues and support voltage-related investigations.

You will monitor and analyze power quality data, apply Rule 2 standards, and communicate findings to internal and external customers, while collaborating with engineers and operations under a collective bargaining framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited US program.
• 1–2 years of power engineering experience.
• Active California EIT certificate.
• Familiar with Rule 2 and voltage complaint procedures.
• Ability to read single-line diagrams and SCADA/schematics.
• Knowledge of harmonics, distributed generation and related concepts.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to customers to resolve power quality issues.
• Offer monitoring support so divisions address power quality concerns.
• Support the company’s power quality programs and guidelines.
• Investigate customer issue correlations using PG&E tools.
• Provide power quality education and awareness to clients.

Department Overview

Electric System Operations oversees the operations of PG&E’s transmission and distribution system to ensure the Grid is operated in a safe, reliable, compliant and event‑free operation manner. The team promotes efficient work practices through communicating, collaborating, and coordinating with other departments and interconnected entities to meet safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction goals.

Position Summary

This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

This is an associate-level Power Quality Engineer job that works as part of a team which provides services to identify and resolve power quality issues or problems for the safe and effective utilization of electric power. This position requires a high level of training and will work under the general technical direction and review of more senior engineers, peers, and supervisor.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

The annual salary range is:

Minimum, $99,936

Maximum, $150,108

Job Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to internal and external customers to resolve power quality related problems, not including Estimator/ADE or Distribution Engineer job duties.
• Provide monitoring support and resources so Divisions can effectively deal with power quality issues.
• Help support the company’s overall power quality programs and guidelines.
• Investigate customer issue correlations using PG&E Reporting and Engineering Tools, not including Estimator/ADE or Distribution Engineer job duties.
• Provide power quality education and awareness to internal and external clients.
• Apply various standards and Rule 2 to resolve issues.
• Resolve inquiries from Power Quality Web mail, not including Estimator/ADE or Distribution Engineer job duties.
• Receives voltage problem notifications from the SmartMeter system, assigns them to the appropriate ADE or Distribution Engineer for investigation and resolution, tracks status and ensures closure.
• Provide guidance, support and oversight regarding the voltage complaint procedure company-wide.
• Provide power quality support on distributed generation issues.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US.

Desired:

• 1-2 years of experience in power engineering.
• Current and active California EIT Certificate.
• Familiar with various standards and Rule 2.
• Familiar with the Voltage Complaint Procedure.
• Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory.
• Basic knowledge of electric distribution system and equipment.
• Basic familiarity with the principles of harmonics and their effects.
• Basic understanding of line and substation equipment and their SCADA abilities.
• Basic understanding of the principles of distributed generation.
• Able to read and understand Single line, SCADA and Schematic diagrams.
• Ability to quickly learn power quality mitigation concepts and their applications.
