Job summary

Tessera seeks a Power Production Technician at USAFA to install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical power systems supporting mission-critical infrastructure. You will work with airfield lighting, alarms, and protection systems, ensuring uninterrupted power and reliability in a demanding environment.

The role requires at least 5 years in industrial electrical systems, and a Colorado Journeyman Electrician License is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial, military, or industrial electrical systems and power production.
  • Colorado Journeyman Electrician License preferred or AFSC 3E052 certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of power generation, switchgear, control panels, and emergency backup systems.
  • Experience with airfield lighting, cathodic protection, and lightning protection systems preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and engineered performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical power generation systems, control panels, and associated equipment.
  • Plan and organize electrical maintenance and repair activities using engineered performance standards.
  • Coordinate scheduled outages, emergency repairs, and system upgrades with base users and stakeholders.
  • Investigate work sites to determine resource needs and prepare cost estimates for service requests.
  • Apply technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to layout and execute electrical work.
  • Maintain and update maintenance forms, logs, and documentation per USAFA protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, and USAF safety standards including lockout/tagout and arc flash procedures.

Location: Colorado Springs, CO (United States Air Force Academy)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full Time, Day Shift. On-call work may also be required based on operational needs.

Compensation: $39.06/hourly

The Power Production Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and code-compliant installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power generation and distribution systems supporting mission-critical infrastructure at USAFA. This includes airfield lighting, fire alarms, lightning protection, and cathodic protection systems. The role requires advanced technical expertise, field leadership, and coordination with base personnel to ensure uninterrupted power and system reliability across the installation.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical power generation systems, control panels, and associated equipment.
  • Plan and organize electrical maintenance and repair activities using engineered performance standards.
  • Coordinate scheduled outages, emergency repairs, and system upgrades with base users and stakeholders.
  • Investigate work sites to determine resource needs and prepare cost estimates for service requests.
  • Apply technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to layout and execute electrical work.
  • Monitor work order priorities, labor costs, and compliance with support agreements and recapitalization plans.
  • Interpret and analyze electrical generating unit records for maintenance planning and reporting.
  • Maintain and update maintenance forms, logs, and documentation in accordance with USAFA protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, and USAF safety standards including lockout/tagout and arc flash procedure.
  • Operate lift equipment and perform tasks in confined spaces, at heights, and under adverse weather conditions.
  • Maintain professionalism in appearance, conduct, and communication across all tasks.
  • Must be able to respond within one hour when on standby.
  • Support special events with mobile generator units to include light towers.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial, military, or industrial electrical systems and power production
  • Valid Colorado Journeyman Electrician License preferred or equivalent military certification AFSC 3E052
  • In-depth knowledge of power generation systems, switchgear, control panels, and emergency backup systems
  • Experience with aircraft arresting systems, cathodic protection, and lightning protection systems preferred
  • Familiarity with airfield lighting systems and DoD electrical infrastructure standards
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineered performance standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
