Job summary

The City of Oberlin is seeking an Electric Plant Operator/Mechanic to assist in the operation and maintenance of the Electric Generation Plant and related facilities. The role requires hands-on mechanical and electrical work, compliance with safety standards, and strong teamwork.

You'll perform inspections, repair engine-generators, electrical and plumbing systems, and support emergency standby operations. A high school diploma and five years of mechanical trades experience are required, along

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years experience in mechanical trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair power plant, wastewater plant and water plant engine-generators.
• Assist in operation, maintenance and repair of city-wide back-up engine-generators.
• Install, maintain and repair engine-generator equipment including pistons, liners, rings, heads, pumps, bearings, heat exchangers and fuel systems.
• Install, maintain and repair electrical systems including wiring, conduit, motors, motor controls, switches, control panels, electrical panels and lights.
• Install, maintain and repair plumbing systems including valves, piping, gauges, fittings and tubing.
• Perform periodic inspection and testing of auxiliary equipment including battery banks, air compressors, tanks, pumps and chemical treatment systems.
