The ideal candidate has industrial operator or technician experience with engines, motors, piping systems, electrical gear, and instrumented controls, and works well in a fast-paced environment under procedures and engineering guidance.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain plant mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process systems, including generators, motors, pumps, piping, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, water systems, UPS, and switchgear
- Conduct daily rounds on critical equipment, catch developing issues early, and report concerns before they affect generation
- Monitor process parameters, identify equipment and process deviations, and take corrective action
- Troubleshoot and repair problems during normal operation, startups, outages, and commissioning
- Support maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for generation, cooling, power distribution, and safety
- Monitor HMI screens and help maintain automated fire protection and emergency shutdown controls
- Read and interpret P&IDs, wiring schematics, equipment manuals, data sheets, and drawings
- Work with engineers and technicians to develop operating procedures, and write and execute MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs
- Follow lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, and site safety and environmental requirements
- Support planned shutdowns, outages, and utility events as directed
- Assist with commissioning by witnessing startups, supporting functional tests, and tracking construction and turnover
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to restore equipment and keep the plant online
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as an operator or technician on industrial mechanical, electrical, and/or control systems
- Working understanding of process parameters and units for temperature, pressure, flow, and power
- Ability to read P&IDs and electrical schematics
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, and hot work permits
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Requirements
- Associate degree in a technical field such as power plant technology, controls, mechatronics, or automation, or equivalent experience
- Experience operating or maintaining equipment at a power plant, process plant, or similar industrial facility
- Experience writing and executing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs
- Troubleshooting experience with PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms such as Ignition, Siemens, Rockwell, or SEL
- Experience with generators, UPS, switchgear, HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, or plant water systems
- Familiarity with 120V, 480V, and 4160V switchgear and components
