About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Field Engineer/Mechanical Field Engineer to support mechanical engineering activities at a large-scale power generation facility in GA.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on mechanical engineering professional who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, field operations, equipment reliability, and capital project execution.
The individual will play an important role in maintaining and improving the performance, reliability, and long‑term condition of critical plant equipment. Working closely with engineering, maintenance, operations, contractors, and technical teams, this position will provide support throughout the equipment lifecycle, from engineering design and project planning through installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
The primary areas of focus include heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), high‑energy piping, and other balance‑of‑plant mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support to improve equipment reliability, operational performance, and overall plant efficiency.
- Plan and support scheduled maintenance outages, including inspection planning, scope development, contractor coordination, and equipment repairs.
- Support capital improvement projects from initial scope development and technical specifications through design review, installation, and commissioning.
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, vendor submittals, calculations, and equipment designs.
- Oversee inspections, maintenance, and reliability improvement initiatives involving HRSGs and high‑energy piping systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and system issues using engineering principles and technical analysis.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment performance and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, equipment vendors, construction contractors, and maintenance service providers.
- Perform field inspections and verify equipment installation, construction quality, and project completion.
- Provide technical recommendations and input on project budgets, equipment upgrades, and maintenance priorities.
- Collaborate with plant operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to implement practical solutions and continuous improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience; candidates with 3-4 years of strong, directly applicable experience will also be considered.
- Hands‑on field engineering experience supporting mechanical equipment, maintenance outages, construction, installation, or commissioning.
- Working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems such as boilers, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and rotating equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment specifications, technical calculations, and vendor documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, project coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with operations, maintenance personnel, contractors, and engineering teams.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in power generation, electric utilities, or combined‑cycle facilities.
- Exposure to HRSGs, high‑energy piping, steam turbines, gas turbines, or related mechanical systems.
- Background in oil & gas, pulp & paper, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Experience supporting mechanical capital projects, equipment upgrades, and plant maintenance outages.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
- Exposure to OSHA standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Primarily onsite at an industrial power generation facility in GA.
- Occasional extended hours, evenings, or weekends may be necessary during scheduled outages and critical project activities.
- Infrequent travel for equipment inspections and factory acceptance testing.
- Combination of office-based engineering work and hands‑on field activities.
