Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an Operations Technician for Plant Franklin to operate and maintain a three-unit combined cycle power plant on a 24/7 basis. The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment using Maximo and related systems.

You will participate in fleet-wide operation reviews as a system owner and must excel under pressure while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Previous power plant experience preferred.
• Combined Cycle Operations experience preferred.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment is required.
• Previous Operations Experience a plus.
• Instrumentation experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operations & Maintenance of Three, 2 on 1 Combined Cycle Units.
• Electrical Troubleshooting and Maintenance on Balance of Plant equipment (Electric Motors, Breakers, Actuators, Relays, etc.)
• Mechanical Troubleshooting and Maintenance on Balance of Plant equipment (Pumps, Valves, Fans, etc.)
• GE Mark VIe and Ovation DCS control system troubleshooting and operation.
• Must have a self-directed mindset.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Actively participate in SPC operations review board teams/Technical teams when assigned.
• System ownership- Develop work scope for outages and routine maintenance on assigned system, share best practices across fleet, establish budget for assigned system (replacements and/or maintenance cost)
• Clearly communicate complex issues to management, vendors, and external personnel to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
