Job summary

CAMS is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the St. Charles Energy Center in Waldorf, Maryland, a 745-MW natural gas facility. You will guide operations, maintenance, engineering, and environmental compliance to maximize reliability and asset value.

The role requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and a track record managing complex power plants in competitive markets. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you will drive safety, performance, and continuous improvement across the site.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive power generation operations and maintenance experience with senior leadership responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; equivalent leadership experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of combined-cycle power plant operations, maintenance, and major equipment systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all plant operations and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, environmentally compliant, and cost-effective performance.
  • Foster a strong safety culture with hazard recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, OSHA, NERC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, coach, and lead a high-performing workforce through recruiting, training, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Manage relationships with ownership, regulatory agencies, system operators, OEMs, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Job description

CAMS is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation of the St. Charles Energy Center, a 745-MW combined-cycle natural gas facility in Waldorf, Maryland.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Plant Manager provides leadership for all plant functions, including operations, maintenance, engineering, environmental compliance, workforce development, budgeting, and outage execution. This role is accountable for maximizing plant availability, reliability, efficiency, and long-term asset value while meeting all safety, environmental, regulatory, and commercial obligations.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, technical expertise, financial acumen, and experience managing a complex power generation facility in a competitive market environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of plant operations and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, environmentally compliant, and cost-effective performance.
  • Foster a strong safety culture that promotes hazard recognition, accountability, contractor safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, OSHA, NERC, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, coach, and lead a high-performing workforce through recruiting, training, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Manage relationships with ownership, asset management, regulatory agencies, system operators, OEMs, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute annual operating plans, O&M budgets, capital plans, and long-term maintenance strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Monitor financial performance and control expenditures while balancing reliability, safety, environmental compliance, and long-term asset health.
  • Drive plant performance by achieving targets related to availability, reliability, heat rate, start reliability, capacity, and dispatch obligations.
  • Oversee maintenance and reliability programs, including preventive and predictive maintenance, backlog management, root cause analysis, and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Lead planning and execution of major outages, capital projects, and maintenance activities, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Provide leadership for engineering support activities, equipment modifications, performance improvement initiatives, and technical problem resolution.
  • Maintain effective emergency response, business continuity, and risk management programs.
  • Communicate significant plant issues, risks, and recommendations to ownership and CAMS leadership in a timely manner.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Support fleet-wide initiatives, technical reviews, and cross-facility collaboration efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Skills
  • 10+ years of progressive power generation operations and maintenance experience, including senior leadership responsibility; prior Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, or equivalent plant leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; equivalent industry leadership experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of combined-cycle power plant operations, maintenance, reliability programs, and major plant equipment systems.
  • Experience with combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, generators, electrical systems, and balance-of-plant equipment; GE 7FA technology and Mark VIe controls preferred.
  • Demonstrated success managing major outages, contractors, OEM relationships, budgets, capital projects, and long-term maintenance programs.
  • Working knowledge of environmental, health and safety, and electric-generation regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CMMS, plant performance monitoring, and related business systems.
  • Ability to respond to plant emergencies outside normal business hours as needed.

$210,000 - $225,000 a year

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
