Job summary

Salt River Project is seeking an Operations Specialist Trainee (OST) in Gilbert, AZ. The OST develops skills for promotion to the Operations Specialist position, working on coal, natural gas, fuel oil fired steam units, turbines, and related equipment across multiple generation assets.

The role emphasizes learning to operate remotely and on-site, coordinating load changes, and training others in plant procedures, with progression to Operator Specialist possible after curriculum completion.

Qualifications

• Must complete at least one year as an O&M Specialist III, Operations or equivalent skills and knowledge.
• A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
• Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
• Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor equipment and auxiliaries from the control room and throughout the facility.
• Perform regular O&M duties at the site, including housing areas, civil works, roadways, water or sewer systems, etc.
• Coordinate and maintain unit availability with AGC for load reductions/increases based on system demands.
• Learn to operate units within environmental and SRP guidelines.
• Direct the work of other classifications and assist as directed to complete tasks.
• Train personnel in other classifications in the proper operation of plant equipment, controls, and procedures.
• Evaluate plant processes and issue clearances as needed; understand the clearance procedure.
